AVALON NOTORIOUS QUESTIONS : Gabriel & Dresden
We had the opportunity to interview the historic trance duo Gabriel & Dresden. After a brief separation after a few years, they are back on the decks in full force! Luckily we had an opportunity to grab an interview with them before their show!
Avalon Hollywood: Attn! We are now interviewing @GabrielNDresden! How are you guys doing on this lovely Wednesday?
Gabriel & Dresden: We are great! Josh is in Amsterdam (where it is already Thursday morning) and Dave is in Oakland, where it is finally sunny
Avalon Hollywood: Great! We are all excited for your set on Saturday! Let’s begin. If you could open or perform with any artist (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Gabriel & Dresden: it changes all the time, but we’re feeling in a Jean Michel Jarre mood these days. Making a tune with Deadmau5 would also not suck so badly. his synths and our songwriting. it would be sick
Avalon Hollywood: now that would be an interesting combo! What has been your biggest track of the year?
Gabriel & Dresden: as far as pure un messed with genius it would have to be mat zo’s club mix of “the sky”. but our mashup of porter’s language, zedd’s spectrum with the vocals of andain promises has also been pretty big
Avalon Hollywood: Zo’s got a good one with The Sky. That’s what we were hoping you’d answer with
What’s your guiltiest after-gig meal?
Gabriel & Dresden: it really depends on where we are. if it’s anywhere near mexico we love us some late night tacos. but sometimes it just ends up being that we raid the mini bar late night.
Avalon Hollywood: can’t go wrong with tacos! or pizza!! If you weren’t DJ’s, what other career would you be doing?
Gabriel & Dresden: well Josh would probably be a software engineer and Dave would be a…maybe a meteorologist?
Avalon Hollywood: wow that’s really interesting! We’re glad you guys chose to stick to music! How did you 2 get into electronic music?
Gabriel & Dresden: Josh bought the Wendy Carlos album “switched on bach” and it changed his life. so much so that he bought his first synthesizer in 1981 followed by his first personal computer in 1982. Dave heard dance music on the radio growing up in the suburbs of NYC. From Jellybean Benitez, Shep Pettibone to Tony Humphries Dave heard all the earliest forms of EDM
Avalon Hollywood: Seems like you guys definitely had a love from the start. Love at first beat? What’s your best drunken story?
Gabriel & Dresden: Those are never good stories to tell.
Avalon Hollywood: haha we know!
What has been the biggest life-changing song you guys have ever created?
Gabriel & Dresden: that would have to be “As The Rush Comes” – it felt timeless when we made it. but we didn’t really know at the same time. but this new song we are working on that we will play in some capacity this saturday has some potential
Avalon Hollywood: Instant classic, we love it! Rumor has there is an album in the works, can you give us any details on it yet?
Gabriel & Dresden: we definitely have a bunch of great songs written, it feels like an album but we might just release them as singles
Avalon Hollywood: looking forward to seeing how you roll them out! Last question: What’s 3 words that can describe your set this Saturday?
Gabriel & Dresden: Emotional Dance Music
Avalon Hollywood: love it! Thank you so much for your time today! We can’t wait to see you rock the house on Saturday!!
Gabriel & Dresden: no, thank yooooooooooooou!! see u saturday!
