Something about the term “Top 10″ tacked on to the front of a phrase always has a way of pulling us in. And we know we’re not alone on that one. Whether it’s in headings like “Top 10 reasons to [insert quirky activity here]” or “Top 10 places to go for [name trendy food fusion here], most of us appreciate a good ‘top 10′-er for its ability to consolidate virtually endless possibilities of something into a neat little dose we can swallow. And who doesn’t love that it’s served in order of preference?
So it’s no surprise that our ears would perk at an EDM artist achieving top 10 status. But we’re not referencing one or two tracks here. What we’re talking about a single artist’s releases all skyrocketing to top 10 positions–for an entire year–via EDM culture buffs like Beatport. And despite this 25 year-old being relatively fresh to the scene, his name already makes regular appearances on famed club and festival headlines across the globe.
He’s English DJ and producer Ashley Wallbridge, and he’s about to take our house by storm. But you could say he’s already done that through his contributing talents in the EDM world. His mix of Gareth Emery’s ‘Arrival–easily one of the biggest remixes of 2011–fast comes to mind, as does his club anthems like ‘Mansion’ and ‘Vision’–both featured as part of Armin Buuren’s Universal Religion compilation series. So are we surprised that his debut album–The Inner Me, released in 2012 on the Armada Music label–hit top 5 status on U.S. iTunes dance charts? We’ll give you one guess. Anticipation for something good doesn’t quite begin to describe or take on his one.

Feel that? It’s the subtle (yet no-doubt-about it) crispness in the air telling us that fall is finally here. We hate to see summer go–we always have. But with each new season comes another set of quintessential perks–and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t already deep in thoughts of pumpkin pie, spice-mulled wine and, well… a Halloween costume. An invitation to indulge? You betcha. And the best part is, it doesn’t end there (not even close!) Because a whole new season at Avaland also equates to a fresh momentum of talents rocking our roof.
And that’s putting it mildly–especially when artists like Max Vangeli have anything to do with the upcoming lineup. Described by MTV as “one of the most promising artists of the year” in 2011 and included in DJ Mag’s “Top 5 DJs to watch” that same year, Vangeli has quickly come to show us what he’s made of–and it’s pure super-stardom. Support from (and collaborations with) industry head honchos like Pete Tong, Size Records’ Steve Angello, Calvin Harris and Dirty South may very well speak for themselves. His sets at world-renowned venues like Pacha Ibiza (Masquerade Motel) or Sensation White–where he performed alongside Swedish House Mafia–may up his standing in the EDM books. But nothing quite compares to a live performance from Vangeli himself. It’s an eclectic indulgence for the senses, an energetic drive of what we love best. And, if you ask us, it’s just what the season ordered.

From Medusa to Duck Sauce, the ghouls and weirdos came out to play over Halloweekend, making it one to remember for us here at Avalon! Whether your costume creeped us out or made us laugh, we loved em all! So here’s a few highlights from the weekend…
We don’t know if we should be scared or enticed….? Either way this girl is nonchalant Halloween cool!
Cruella De Vil, Cruella De Vil. If she doesn’t scare you no evil thing will!
This guy has the Jabbowockeez thing in the bag! But, we’re wondering if he had the dancing skills to match?
The two aren’t your “Twighlight” type of vampires…
Two words. BIG. FROS.
This is an impeccable version of the Evil Queen from Snow White!
And more Disney characters! Sleeping Beauty…. Also giving her an excuse to take a nap at any time during the night!
Whats better than one skeleton? Three!
These two may just take the award for the best costume of the weekend. DUCK SAUCE. From Armand’s stubble to A-track’s hat, they got it down!
